The Walks Inside Rome team
If you are visiting Italy you cannot miss the city of Florence, the cradle of one of the best artistic and cultural movements, the Renaissance. The city bursts with masterpieces – paintings, sculptures and buildings - from the Middle Ages through the sixteenth century.
You will have the chance to travel either by train or by private car, with a stop on your way to Florence perhaps at Orvieto or even Arezzo. The route is pleasant and relaxing: following the roads north of Rome, you will be driving through the green region of Umbria, with its gently rolling hills scattered with ancient convents and picturesque small villages to reach the unmistakable Tuscan landscape, with its red soil, its vineyards, the lines of cypress hills and fields of sunflowers.
When you arrive in Florence you will meet one of our colleagues from Walks Inside Florence, who will take you on a tour of its jewels and wonders: from the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore – also known as the Duomo - with its impressive dome by Filippo Brunelleschi, to the Baptistery and Giotto’s Bell Tower; you will have time to visit Piazza della Signoria, the political heart of the city, with its ancient buildings and famous statues, from which you can enjoy one of the most astonishing perspectives, the view of the Uffizi Gallery, with its astonishing collection of artwork.
Take a walk along the picturesque Ponte Vecchio and browse through the many shops open on both sides; follow the footsteps of the genius of Michelangelo, who left so many masterpieces in this city.
