Tour Description
Rome wasn’t built in a day, but through our Best of Rome tour you can sure see it in one! This itinerary takes you on a cultural and artistic journey through the highlights of Rome, in the company of your very own expert guide. Discover the masterpieces of the Vatican Museums, skipping all lines as you do so, and enter into the pinnacle of High Renaissance art: the Sistine Chapel. Then explore the epicenter of the Christian world, Saint Peter’s Basilica, before discovering the secrets of its square with your expert guide.
We’ll then drive you straight from the Vatican to the immortal Colosseum – the quintessential icon of Rome’s ancient might. Glimpse through its concrete arches as you venture inside the apex of ancient Roman entertainment. Next, the Roman Forum awaits. Though it’s the heart of ancient Roman life, its ruins and gardens, though vast and towering, bring a mindfulness to your tour. Decompress as our expert guide brings this once active center to life with myths, legends, and accounts about the rise and fall of Rome’s mighty empire.
Wander through the Vatican Museums
For such a masterpiece of High Renaissance art, some anticipation is required. We start with skip-the-line tickets to the Vatican Museums where our expert guide leads you to discover the most impressive pieces in the Vatican Museums’ collection of ancient art.
Lose yourself in Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel
We won’t let your current feeling of awe dissipate as our guide walks you down the Hall of Tapestries lavishing on you the historic tales and explanations of the mythology portrayed. Continue on to the Gallery of Maps to see the changing world over the ages. Beyond the next doors lies the Vatican’s pièce de résistance – the Sistine Chapel.
Michelangelo’s masterpiece stretches out above you, portraying a story your expert guide will narrate. Trace the brush strokes of this genius of the Renaissance, interpret the parables, and bask in the gloriously lit masterpiece.
Discover Saint Peter’s Basilica
To finalize your visit to the Vatican, a special entry led by your guide to Saint Peter’s Basilica is next. Uplifting you from the chapel, a connected passage exists in which your tour guide will lead you through to reach the grandiose basilica next door. Explore its intricate mosaics detailing the parables of the bible.
Gaze at Bernini’s bronze baldachin, lit by the aperture of the dome above- Michelangelo’s Pieta. An exit to Saint Peter’s Square where another of Bernini’s masterful works, the colonnade, can be viewed is an ideal spot to decompress and contemplate the magnificence of what you’ve just seen.
Visit the mighty Colosseum
With skip-the-line entrance, your guide will lead you through the massive arches into the colossal structure built by the rulers of the Flavian Dynasty. Your Best of Rome tour takes you through the stadium and covered passages within the Colosseum, once known as the Flavian Amphitheater. With its monumental size, it’s nearly impossible to believe it was all made in one decade, millenia ago.
Walk through the ages as our personable guide tells the tales of the rise and fall of this majestic structure. Gladiators ruled the crowds with might and angst, battle reenactments saw the towering iron gates charged, experience the fear and excitement inflicted throughout the masses with lively tales and historic accounts.
Just steps away the Roman Forum stretches out
As the epicenter of ancient Roman life, explore the green gardens, vineyard, and impressive ruins as our guide repaints life from thousands of years ago. From the Arch of Titus to the Temple of Caesar, the Roman Forum is full of history ranging from the simplest farmer’s markets to theological temples. On your own, roam through the still-standing columns before the Temple of Vesta and explore the ruins of Basilica Julia.
Finish your Best of Rome tour at the epicenter of ancient Rome
The Roman Forum is the perfect place to contemplate your 5-hour journey through time, from ancient to Baroque, in this Best of Rome tour.

The location of the class is in a beautiful old building and the equipment and work surfaces are great for teaching people to cook things. The main chef and the assistants were so welcoming and explained everything well. I've been wanting to learn how to prepare and cook artichokes for ages and we got to do that in our class, which was great. You make a variety of different dishes, so learn different techniques and get an understanding of how Italians make traditional dishes. Everything you make, you get to eat and it was all delicious! read less - 5/29/2020

She took time to learn our interests (geology for my daughter) and pointed out items that spoke to that interest. She was easy to understand and speak with and our tour flowed smoothly and never felt rushed or too slow. Lea was amazing and I would definitely book with Walks Inside Rome again. read less - 11/12/2019

Lots of energy, funny stories to tell, information about the neighborhood and life in Rome. She was so friendly. She really made the evening for us. The food stops were great too, of course. We tasted Italian cheeses, cured meats, wine and fried cod, pizza, pasta, and gelato. And I might be forgetting something! Definitely no need to go out to eat after this tour! (The cost for all the food and drinks was included in the tour price). Some of the stops were so tasty we revisited them before the end of our trip.
My teenage son and I did four different tours with Walks Inside Rome on this trip and we enjoyed them all, but I think this was our favorite. read less - 10/23/2019Sam5780

Unlike other cooking classes I saw when I was searching for one, this one first meets at an amazing market (I recommend going early to grab some goodies) second, you choose your meal , it’s what you and your group decide on for the day (btw it’s a lot of food some come hungry) and lastly it is all hands on the chef explains what to do, shows you an example and then it is all you (of course the chef is there to help and guide when needed). Oh o forgot to mention lots of drinking!!! Just do it, you won’t regret it. read less - 10/19/2019
