Historically, Venetians wore them to protect their identity as they went about the small lagoon-based city engaging in promiscuous acts that would otherwise tarnish their reputation.
Paint your own mask at a traditional artisan workshop
This Venetian adventures takes place in a famous mask making shop in the historic city center. Here you’ll learn all about the captivating history of Venetian Masks, the different types of mask ranging from Commedia dell’Arte to Colombina styles, and the materials they are made from. During your time here, you’ll take part in an immersive, hands-on mask painting session during which you’ll have the chance to design your very own Venetian Carnival mask – the perfect gift or souvenir to take back home with you!
