Go deep into the gastronomic and cultural Apulian traditions

Puglia, that stretch of the Italian heel kissed by the sun, is an undeservedly undiscovered region. It is magnificent, from all points of view. This territory that has remained authentic is a concentration of history, culture, art, flavors, traditions, and beautiful landscapes. Furthermore, it is also a unique wine region in Italy and in recent years it offers more and more wines of good quality, to the point of rivaling fierce international competitors. If you are looking for endemic vines, delicious cuisine and authenticity, Puglia is highly recommended.

Characterized by earthy cuisine and white-washed architecture, Puglia can feel more like a Greek island than an Italian region – making its exploration all the more adventurous.

The heart of Italian cuisine

Puglia is the heart of Italian cuisine, it represents one of the frontiers of food to be discovered and is fast becoming one of the greatest gastronomic destinations in Italy. Its cuisine is based on the use of the most natural and fresh ingredients, both from land and sea, avoiding processed foods as much as possible. Thanks to its rural nature it is an ancient and lush land with excellent climatic conditions, incredibly fertile soil, an unbeatable range of fresh fruit and vegetables, a long stretch of coast with many fishing opportunities and remote plateaus with vineyards and farms.

The Apulian countryside is dotted with countless Masserie, the traditional old farmhouses typical of Southern Italy. Your local guide will lead you through fields of olive trees and lush vineyards where you can taste the best Negramaro and Primitivo wines and taste the Apulian delicacies immersed in a bucolic setting, while the sea breeze invigorates your senses.

There are lots of typical products just waiting to be tasted where expert hands still offer them to the most active traveler:

  • the bread of Altamura

  • the focaccia from Bari

  • the burrata and mozzarella

  • the fresh fish of the Apulian coasts

  • the homemade pasta (orecchiette, cavatelli, strascinati…)

  • the pasticciotto from Lecce

Let yourself be enchanted by the magic of Matera, the City of Sassi

On the border with Puglia, in Basilicata, is Matera, the “City of Sassi”, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993 and European Capital of Culture in 2019. It is one of the most ancient cities in the world whose territory preserves evidence of human settlements starting from the Paleolithic and Neolithic period up to the present day.

The original urban core of the area of Sassi has developed from natural caves carved into the rock and subsequently modeled into increasingly complex structures within two large natural amphitheaters which are the Sasso Caveoso and the Sasso Barisano, right behind the old town. Here, in the company of your local guide you can stroll through the labyrinth of stairways, squares and alleys where worship and tradition create a unique atmosphere made of churches, houses, medieval ramparts and aristocratic palaces scattered through breathtaking panoramic paths that give the sensation of walking in a nativity scene.

Matera represents an extraordinary page written by man through the millennia of its very long history. Its architecture tells of man’s ability to adapt perfectly to the environment and the natural context, using simple characteristics with skill such as the constant temperature of the excavated rooms, the calcarenite itself of the rocky bank for the construction of dwellings above ground and the use of slopes for the control of water and meteoric phenomena.
