Tour description

A private tour of the enchanting Borghese Gallery situated in Rome’s most elegant gardens: the Villa Borghese gardens. Lose yourself among the masterpieces of one of Europe's most extraordinary museums, and one of Rome's greatest patrician collections, the Borghese Gallery.

Villa Borghese was built in the 17th century as a house of splendid beauty to compliment the surrounding parks and gardens. The house served as a retreat where arts were cultivated and important guests were received.

The formidable collection of art all started with Cardinal Scipione Borghese, a nephew of Pope Paul V. The Cardinal was a shrewd and obsessive collector with an aesthetic eye; he was a patron of Caravaggio and Bernini. Cardinal Borghese commissioned artworks from the greatest artists of his time, and used the villa to receive and entertain illustrious guests.

The Borghese gallery is the Cardinal’s legacy and includes pieces by Bernini, Raphael, Caravaggio, Canova and Titan. It is one of Rome’s best art collections in an unparalleled romantic setting.

If you would like to focus your tour on Bernini or Caravaggio, we are able to organize your gallery visit to be followed with additional sites of interest where their works are displayed.
