Your tour begins inside the Vatican Museums, home to one of the most impressive and extensive art collections in the world. Spread across a complex of grand palaces and galleries, the collection spans over 2,100 years of history and stretches for nearly four miles of corridors. As you walk through these remarkable halls, you’ll encounter masterpieces from ancient Egypt and Etruria, classical Greece and Rome, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and even the modern era. Each room reveals layers of history, culture, and artistic brilliance that have shaped Western civilization.
Among the many highlights of the tour are some of the most celebrated artworks ever created. You’ll have time to admire Michelangelo’s breathtaking ceiling and the powerful Last Judgement in the Sistine Chapel, enjoyed in a serene evening atmosphere that enhances their emotional impact. The tour also includes the Raphael Rooms, where you’ll stand before the iconic School of Athens, a masterpiece that embodies the ideals of the Renaissance and brings together philosophy, art, and humanism in a single, unforgettable scene.
As Saint Peter’s Basilica is not open in the evening, this tour allows for a deeper and more focused exploration of the Vatican’s unparalleled collections. Accompanied by an experienced, knowledgeable guide and within the intimacy of a private group, you’ll have the freedom to ask questions, linger over the artworks that fascinate you most, and gain insights that go far beyond the surface. The quieter setting makes for a more personal, immersive, and enriching experience.
This tour is ideal for travelers arriving in Rome who want to dive straight into the city’s cultural and artistic soul. It’s a refined and memorable way to begin your Roman journey, setting the tone for the days ahead.
Please note that St. Peter’s Basilica is an active place of worship and may be closed to the public without prior notice due to religious ceremonies or unforeseen events.
*Please note, in accordance with the Vatican Museum's guidelines, guests using or requiring wheelchairs will be directed along a separate pathway. During this time, you will be accompanied only by your escort and will not be part of the main group or with the tour leader. This arrangement applies when transitioning from the Vatican Museum to the Sistine Chapel. Also, shoulders and knees need to be covered during the tour. No vests, shorts, or skirts above the knee will be allowed inside the Vatican Museums and St. Peter’s Basilica.*
