Rome, the city of domes

The skyline of Rome has as its protagonist the dome. The dome is an important architectural element that covers buildings with a circular plan, its origin is still unknown, but the Romans were the greatest builders of domes.

St. Peter's Dome
This is the first dome of Rome and covers the first basilica in Rome. It has a diameter of 42 meters and a height of 130 meters. Baroque art symbol was designed by Michelangelo and is characterized by rectangular windows 16, while the top was placed a lantern with a cross.

Dome of the Pantheon
The Pantheon is one of the most beautiful monuments of Rome, characterized by a particular decorated dome on the inner 28 drawers and the center has an oculus open to almost 9 meters. This openness creates inside a beautiful effect. When it rains the air stream breaks the water droplets from the inside and it seems that it does not rain.

Basilica of Saint Mary Major
Are two and overlooking the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome's Esquilino quarter. They are made of bronze and divided into 8 parts that come together in the superior craftsmanship, creating a small dome where was placed the majesty of God.

Church of Santa Maria di Loreto
This beautiful church is located a few steps from the Forum and was built by a pupil of Michelangelo. The church built in brick and travertine is very elegant and refined and has, herself, a lantern in his highest point.
