If you are visiting Italy you cannot miss the city of Florence, the cradle of one of the best artistic and cultural movements, the Renaissance. The city bursts with masterpieces – paintings, sculptures and buildings – from the Middle Ages through the sixteenth century.

You can embark on this experience – one of our very best day trips from Rome – either by train or by private car. The route is pleasant and relaxing: following the roads north of Rome, you will be driving through the green region of Umbria, with its gently rolling hills scattered with ancient convents and picturesque small villages to reach the unmistakable Tuscan landscape, with its red soil, its vineyards, the lines of cypress hills and fields of sunflowers.

Stretching forth from the imposing Palazzo Vecchio, the square is flanked by the Loggia dei Lanzi (otherwise known as the statue garden) and the flowing Fountain of Neptune. Piazza della Signoria gives you one of the most astonishing perspectives not just of the Palazzo Vecchio but also of the Uffizi Gallery, with its world-famous collection of artworks.

Your Accademia or Uffizi Gallery tour can be fully customized according to your interests, but we recommend viewing either one or the other of these incredible galleries. The Accademia is home more to statues, the most famous of which is the David and Michelangelo’s other unfinished marble creations. The Uffizi is more exhaustive and contains world-renowned pieces like Botticelli’s Venus and Spring, several works by Leonardo Da Vinci, and a range of paintings by Caravaggio.
